Ninjago 71875 Lloyd vs Ras Spinner Battle lands on 1 January 2027

Analysis 10 min read By the Setobrick team

LEGO has revealed the first two Ninjago sets of 2027, and both are spinners due on 1 January. 71875 Lloyd vs Ras Spinner Battle is one of them. Two fan sites broke the news. We separate what is confirmed from what is still blank, and say what we think.

Two spinner sets open the 2027 Ninjago year on 1 January

The first Ninjago wave of 2027 is here, and it is small: two sets, both spinners, both dated 1 January 2027. The official reveal came on 2 October 2026. Jay's Brick Blog covered it that day, and so did the German site stonewars.de. Those are the two fan sources we are working from.

The pair is 71873 Cole vs. Evil Cole Spinner and 71875 Lloyd vs Ras Spinner Battle. This article is mostly about the second one, because that is the number the news cycle has attached to the Lloyd and Ras duel. The two sets are clearly designed as a duo, so we will keep looking back at 71873 to make sense of the pattern.

One thing deserves saying straight away. This is a reveal of two products and a date, not a full spec sheet. Anything beyond that is, for now, interpretation. We will try to keep a clear line between the two throughout.

What is actually confirmed about 71875 and its twin

Let us list the solid ground. Both fan sources agree that two Ninjago spinner sets were officially unveiled. Both give the same release date, 1 January 2027. Both name the same two set numbers. The English source gives the English name of 71875 as Lloyd vs Ras Spinner Battle, and that is the name we keep in this article.

The German source adds a useful detail on timing. Its report was updated on 2 October at 14:14 to say that official images of 71873 had appeared, after the first post had focused on 71875. In other words, the Lloyd and Ras set was shown first, and the Cole set followed within the same day. The same report says both novelties were already listed in a retailer shop, so the sets can be ordered in advance in at least one place in Germany.

That is the entire confirmed list: names, numbers, a date, and an early shop listing. It is a short list, and we would rather print a short list than pad it with guesses.

Both fan sites read the pair as an evil twin story

The English headline puts the angle bluntly: the reveal showcases an evil version of the ninja. That reading comes from the 71873 name, where Cole faces an Evil Cole. It gives us the first real hint about where the 2027 story might go, since the very first sets of the year are built on a ninja meeting a darker mirror of himself.

71875 sets a different kind of duel. Lloyd faces Ras. According to the sources, the name alone tells us the opponent is a named character rather than an evil copy. We will not say who Ras is or where the character comes from, because nothing in our sources explains it, and we do not want to guess in public on a story point.

What we can say is that the two sets do not repeat each other. One is a ninja against his own dark double. The other is a ninja against a separate named rival. That is at least a sensible way to split a two-set opening.

The Spinner Battle name promises a head to head format

The product names do most of the talking. 71873 is titled with a spinner attack, in the German wording, and 71875 uses the words Spinner Battle in English, with the German name speaking of a Spinner duel. Both names use the versus format, which points to two characters and a face off between them.

That is as far as the names can take us. We do not know whether each set includes one spinner or two, how the spinners are launched, whether the box is meant to be played as a game or displayed, or what the arena looks like. The sources we have do not say. Anyone who tells you that today is working from a rumour at best.

When the full product pages arrive, those are the first four questions we will check, because they decide whether the set is a toy you will actually spin on a table or a small shelf piece.

The numbers we cannot give you yet, and why that matters

Our catalogue has no figures for 71875 yet. There is no confirmed part count, no confirmed minifigure list and no confirmed box size in the sources, and we will not estimate any of them. A part count guessed from the name of a set is just a number with a confident face.

This is exactly where we usually add value. When a set lands in our database, we compare its part count to every other set in the theme, we rank it, and we tell you how it sits among its siblings. Today there is nothing to rank. The comparison section of this article will have to wait for the data, and we would rather tell you that than fill the space with borrowed figures from other sets.

What we can promise is the method. Once the official numbers are published, we will set 71875 against 71873 first, since they share a release date and a format, and then against the other small Ninjago sets we hold in the database.

A 1 January release is unusual enough to be worth watching

The release date is the one concrete fact that gives us something to chew on. 1 January 2027 is the first day of the year, and both sets are set for that exact date. For a spinner pair, that places them at the very start of the Ninjago calendar for the year, ahead of anything else in the theme that has been announced.

We want to be careful here. Our sources do not say whether this is an exclusive window, a standard worldwide date or a date that applies in some regions only. They give the date and nothing more. So treat 1 January as the date quoted by two fan sites at the time of the reveal, and expect the official pages to settle any regional differences.

The early shop listing mentioned by the German source adds a practical note. If you like to pre-order, the option appears to exist already in at least one retailer. We do not discuss prices, so we will leave it there.

Who should keep an eye on 71875, and who can skip it

With so little confirmed, we can still sketch an audience, with the caveat that it rests on the product name and nothing else. If you collect Ninjago and want every character duel on the shelf, a Lloyd and Ras set is on your radar by default. If you are building a collection of the dark counterparts of the ninja, the 71873 side of the pair will matter just as much as this one.

If you collect large display builds, we would wait. Spinner sets in a versus format tend to be about the action, and the sources give no hint of a large model. That is our reading, not a fact, and the product pages may prove us wrong in either direction.

For everyone else, the sensible move is to do nothing today. A reveal with a date and two names is not a reason to rush. The detailed pages will come, and the real decision should wait for the part count and the figure list.

Our view: a clear start to 2027, but a reveal too thin to judge

We like that the 2027 opening is easy to read. Two sets, two duels, one date. There is no confusing lineup, and the pairing of a ninja against an evil double with a ninja against a named rival makes sense as a narrative pairing.

We are less excited by how little we have. A name, a number and a date are what a reveal gives you on day one, and it is not enough to call a set good or bad. We are allowed to be unimpressed, but we also refuse to be unimpressed by a blank. So this is a wait and see, with a mild positive lean for Ninjago fans because the concept is clean.

We will update our database the moment the official figures arrive, and our verdict will move with them.

Our take

Our verdict is cautious. The concept is tidy and the release date puts Ninjago at the very front of the 2027 calendar, which is good news for fans of the theme. But a reveal with only names, numbers and a date cannot support a real judgement of the set itself.

We will not hand out a high mark on a promise. Five bricks is where we land for now: a clear start, no evidence yet that it is more than that. We will revisit it once the part count, the minifigures and the spinner mechanism are public.

Frequently asked questions

When is LEGO Ninjago 71875 Lloyd vs Ras Spinner Battle released?

According to the two fan sites that covered the official reveal on 2 October 2026, the set is due on 1 January 2027. The same date applies to its twin, 71873 Cole vs. Evil Cole Spinner. The sources do not say whether the date differs by region, so check the official product page when it appears.

What is the other set revealed with 71875?

The second set is 71873 Cole vs. Evil Cole Spinner. It pits the ninja Cole against an evil version of himself. Official images of it appeared later on 2 October 2026, after the first reports had focused on 71875. Both sets are spinner sets and share the same January 2027 release date.

How many pieces and minifigures does 71875 have?

We do not know yet. Neither fan source gives a part count or a minifigure list, and our catalogue has no figures for the set. We will not estimate them. Once the official numbers are published, we will add them and compare the set with the other small Ninjago sets we hold.

Can I already pre-order LEGO Ninjago 71875?

The German fan site stonewars.de reports that both new sets were already listed in a retailer shop on 2 October 2026, so ordering ahead appears possible in at least one place. We cannot confirm availability elsewhere. Check the official store and your usual retailers before the reveal settles into full listings.

Who is Ras in Ninjago 71875?

Our sources only give the name, in the title Lloyd vs Ras Spinner Battle, and do not explain the character or the story behind the duel. We would rather not guess on a story point. If official descriptions or the set's product page give more detail, we will cover it in a follow up.
