All LEGO Forma sets
The LEGO Forma theme brings together 4 sets, all released in 2019: 81000 Koi, 81001 Shark Skin, 81002 Splash Koi Skin and 81003 Ink Koi Skin. It pairs a 293-piece koi fish with skins of 31 to 33 pieces, mostly white and black.
A theme built around the koi
LEGO Forma has 4 sets, all released in 2019. The theme is built around 81000 Koi, a koi fish to build, and sets whose names evoke a skin: 81001 Shark Skin, 81002 Splash Koi Skin and 81003 Ink Koi Skin.
The koi is an ornamental fish, and 81001 Shark Skin points to the shark. The names of 81003 Ink Koi Skin and 81002 Splash Koi Skin evoke ink and splashes, two skin styles for the koi.
A 293-piece model and compact skins
With 293 pieces, 81000 Koi is the largest model in the theme. The skins are much lighter: 81001 Shark Skin has 31 pieces, while 81002 Splash Koi Skin and 81003 Ink Koi Skin have 33 each.
A set in this theme contains 98 pieces on average, compared with 389 across the whole LEGO catalogue. Forma stands out for its short builds, centred on a larger main model.
A palette dominated by white and black
As for colours, white makes up 47% of the pieces and black 22%. Blue follows with 9%, then light bluish gray and dark bluish gray with 6% each, and tan with 3%.
This restrained palette suits aquatic animals such as the koi in 81000 Koi and the shark in 81001 Shark Skin. For a fan or a parent discovering Forma, the theme comes down to one fish to build, along with skins named after the koi and the shark.
