LEGO Ideas and CUUSOO 21317 Steamboat Willie

LEGO Ideas 21317, Steamboat Willie, depicts the steamboat associated with an early animated appearance of Mickey Mouse. Released in 2019 under LEGO Ideas and CUUSOO, the set contains 751 pieces and uses a black, white and grey presentation.

Steamboat Willie is based on the Disney short film of the same name, translating its early animation style into a LEGO model. Within LEGO Ideas and CUUSOO, it belongs to the group of sets developed from fan submitted concepts. The subject gives the model a clear place between a display boat and a licensed tribute to animation history.

The build forms a stylised hull, cabin, funnels and side paddle wheels. Its mostly monochrome colour scheme reflects the visual character of the source material. The set includes the minifigures Mickey Mouse, Black and White and Minnie Mouse, Black and White. Notable details include deck fittings and a mechanism that moves the paddle wheels and funnels when the boat is pushed along.

This set is well suited to display, especially for collectors interested in LEGO Ideas and CUUSOO or Disney related models. The moving features also give it a modest play function without changing its role as a display piece. Compared with other sets in the theme, it stands out through its restricted palette, recognisable silhouette and close link to a specific animated work.
