LEGO F1 sets compared: Technic, Speed Champions and Racers
LEGO F1 comes in four families, and they do not serve the same reader. Technic gives you big team cars from 1,361 to 1,675 parts. Speed Champions covers most of the grid at about 250 parts. City handles pit scenes, and the Racers era is mostly old Ferraris. Pick by shelf space and budget.

Technic team cars are the serious builds, and Ferrari gets the leanest one
The Technic line is where LEGO F1 gets ambitious. 42228 McLaren MCL39 F1 Car (2026) has 1,675 parts, the largest set in our database for this subject. 42171 Mercedes-AMG F1 W14 E Performance follows with 1,642 parts, then 42206 Oracle Red Bull Racing RB20 F1 Car with 1,639 and 42240 Aston Martin Aramco AMR25 F1 Car with 1,547. None of them has a minifigure. These are display models, not toys for a race track on the carpet.
Launch retail prices, as listed by Brickset, are tight. The MCL39, the RB20, the AMR25 and 42207 Ferrari SF-24 F1 Car all launched at $229.99 / £199.99. The Mercedes was a little cheaper at $219.99 / £189.99. 42141 McLaren Formula 1 Team 2022 (First Edition) launched at $199.99 / £169.99 with 1,432 parts.
The Ferrari is the awkward one. The SF-24 has 1,361 parts, the lowest count of the Technic team cars from 2022 onwards, and it carries the top launch price of the group. About 300 fewer parts than the MCL39 for the same money. Parts are not everything, but we would not ignore it. If you are a Ferrari fan, you will buy it anyway. Just know what the number says.
On dates, Brickset gives the Mercedes an announced end of sales in December 2026. The MCL39, RB20, AMR25 and SF-24 have no end date in our database. The 2022 McLaren is already finished: Brickset lists its sales as ending in December 2025.
Speed Champions covers almost the whole grid at about 250 parts per car
Speed Champions is the series that treats Formula 1 as a collection. The 2025 wave gives each team its own car, all at $26.99 / £22.99 at launch, all with one minifigure. 77243 Oracle Red Bull Racing RB20 F1 Race Car has 251 parts. 77246 Visa Cash App RB VCARB 01 F1 Race Car has 248. 77248 BWT Alpine F1 Team A524 Race Car has 258 and 77247 KICK Sauber F1 Team C44 Race Car has 259.
The rest of the wave sits in the same narrow band: 77249 Williams Racing FW46 F1 Race Car (263 parts), 77244 Mercedes-AMG F1 W15 Race Car (267), 77251 McLaren F1 Team MCL38 Race Car and 77245 Aston Martin Aramco F1 AMR24 Race Car (269 each), and 77242 Ferrari SF-24 F1 Race Car (275). Same scale, same box style, same price. That is the point: they line up.
Do not expect detail. A Technic RB20 has about 1,400 more parts than its Speed Champions twin. What you get instead is a car you can put next to eight others without a second shelf. We think that is the right trade for most fans.
Watch the dates. Brickset lists an announced end in December 2026 for most of these. The KICK Sauber is different: its sales ended in December 2025.
The newest Speed Champions step outside the grid with a film team and F1 Academy
2026 brought cars that are not strictly Formula 1 teams. 77252 APXGP Team Race Car from F1 The Movie has 268 parts and two minifigures, and launched at $27.99 / £22.99. Brickset gives a January 2026 start and no end date. The name says it all: this is the film team, not a real one.
The other new entry is the real grid again. 77259 Audi Revolut F1 Team R26 Race Car is the smallest of the full-size cars at 216 parts, with one minifigure and the same $27.99 / £22.99 launch price. Sales began in March 2026 and Brickset announces an end in December 2026.
Then comes the junior series. 77258 F1 ACADEMY LEGO Race Car has 201 parts, one minifigure and a $27.99 / £22.99 launch price. 30734 Mini F1 ACADEMY Car is a 58 part micro build at $4.99. A promotional 6626065 F1 ACADEMY LEGO Race Car has just 32 parts and no launch price in our database. Collectors will want the pair of small ones. Everyone else can skip them.
City F1 sets are for pit-lane scenes
City is the least serious F1 range and the most playable. The point is the garage, the truck and the crew. 60445 F1 Truck with RB20 & AMR24 F1 Cars is the big one: 1,086 parts, five minifigures, a launch price of $99.99 / £89.99 and an announced end of sales in December 2026. It gives you two teams in one box.
60444 F1 Garage & Mercedes-AMG & Alpine Cars has 686 parts and six minifigures, launched at $79.99 / £69.99, and Brickset lists its sales as finished in December 2025. 60493 F1 Display Truck with Audi F1 Race Car (2026) has 508 parts and three minifigures, at $44.99 / £39.99, with an announced end in December 2026.
The two small boxes are the entry point. 60443 F1 Pit Stop & Pit Crew with Ferrari Car has 322 parts and five minifigures for $29.99 / £24.99, with no end date listed. 60474 F1 Grid with VCARB & Sauber Race Cars has 313 parts and three minifigures at the same price, and its sales ended in December 2025.
The Racers era was Ferrari country, with one Williams as the exception
Before Technic and Speed Champions split the subject, the Racers theme carried it. 8461 Williams F1 Team Racer (2002) is the big surprise: 1,484 parts, no minifigures, a launch price of $129.99 / £99.99, and sales from September 2002 to December 2003. It is the only non-Ferrari Racers car in our list.
Everything else in the theme wears red. 8674 Ferrari F1 Racer 1:8 (2006) has 1,246 parts and launched at $139.99 / £99.99. 8157 Ferrari F1 1:9 (2008) has 997 parts at $89.99 / £73.39. 8386 Ferrari F1 Racer 1:10 (2004) has 719 parts at $70.00 / £49.99. The scale names tell you the story: each generation came in a different size.
The scene sets came in smaller boxes. 8144 Ferrari 248 F1 Team has 732 parts and seven minifigures, launched at $69.99 / £49.99 and sold only through 2007. 8155 Ferrari F1 Pit 1:55 has 482 parts and 8153 Ferrari F1 Truck 1:55 has 270, at $39.99 / £24.99 and $19.99 / £15.65.
Older still: 2556 Ferrari Formula 1 Racing Car (1997, Model Team) has 580 parts. 8445 Indy Storm / Formula 1 Racer (1999, Technic) has 434 and a $40.00 launch price. 6484 F1 Hauler (1995, Town) has 278 parts and three minifigures at $49.50. At the bottom, 2535 Formula 1 Racing Car has 31 parts, the smallest set in our F1 list. 75883 MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team (2017, Speed Champions) belongs here too: 963 parts, eight minifigures, $99.99 / £84.99.
Two McLaren helmets sit outside every series
43017 McLaren Mastercard F1 Team Oscar Piastri Helmet and 43023 McLaren Mastercard F1 Team Lando Norris Helmet are both listed in the Editions theme. Each has 793 parts and one minifigure. Launch price: $89.99 / £79.99. On sale since June 2026, no end date.
They are the only sets in our F1 list that are not a vehicle or a pit scene. They are for the fan who follows a driver, not a team. For a shelf next to the MCL39, they make sense. For a first F1 set, they do not.
McLaren, Ferrari and Mercedes are covered everywhere, Williams and Audi barely
Going by set names alone, McLaren has the broadest footprint: 42228 McLaren MCL39 F1 Car, 42141 McLaren Formula 1 Team 2022 (First Edition), 77251 McLaren F1 Team MCL38 Race Car and both helmets. Ferrari has 42207 Ferrari SF-24 F1 Car, 77242 Ferrari SF-24 F1 Race Car, 60443 F1 Pit Stop & Pit Crew with Ferrari Car, and a long Racers back catalogue. Mercedes appears in Technic, in 77244 Mercedes-AMG F1 W15 Race Car and in 76909 Mercedes-AMG F1 W12 E Performance & Mercedes-AMG Project One, which launched at $34.99 / £39.99 and ended sales in December 2024.
Red Bull and Aston Martin each have a Technic car, a Speed Champions car and a place in 60445. Williams has 77249 Williams Racing FW46 F1 Race Car and the old 8461. Alpine, KICK Sauber and Visa Cash App RB are Speed Champions and City only. Audi is the newest name: 77259 and 60493. We find no Haas in the set names.
One trap: 76918 McLaren Solus GT & McLaren F1 LM has F1 in its name, but it is a pair of road and GT cars, not a Formula 1 car. It does not belong on a grid shelf.

Pick Technic to display, Speed Champions to collect, City to play
If you want one centrepiece, buy Technic. 42228 McLaren MCL39 F1 Car is the largest, and the 2026 cars are the freshest in the range. If your team is Ferrari, 42207 Ferrari SF-24 F1 Car is the only modern Technic option, and its lower part count is the price of loyalty. If your team is Mercedes and you want the cheaper Technic, 42171 Mercedes-AMG F1 W14 E Performance has the lowest launch price of the four non-Ferrari cars.
If you want the grid, buy Speed Champions. The 2025 cars cost the same at launch and stand at the same scale, so you can fill the shelf team by team. Start with the ones that Brickset marks as ending in December 2026, and do not leave 77259 Audi Revolut F1 Team R26 Race Car for last.
If you want a pit scene, buy City. 60443 F1 Pit Stop & Pit Crew with Ferrari Car is, like 60474, the cheapest way in at $29.99 / £24.99. If you remember the early 2000s, hunt down the Racers: 8461 Williams F1 Team Racer is the one with real size and a rare team.
A last point on dates. An end of sales announced for a month in 2026 is only an announcement. Check the Brickset dates on each set page in our database before you plan a purchase around them.
The full list is under all LEGO Speed Champions sets.
Our take
LEGO F1 is now a real range, not a side project. Technic delivers five big cars from 2024 to 2026, and Speed Champions covers most of the grid with consistent parts and prices. We mark it down for two reasons: the Ferrari Technic car has the lowest part count at the top price, and the City sets are mostly about trucks, not cars. Choose by what you want to do with it, and the range has an answer.
