LEGO set 71409, Big Spike's Cloudtop Challenge Expansion Set, belongs to the Super Mario theme and represents an expansion set built around a cloudtop challenge linked to Big Spike. Released in 2022, it contains 540 pieces.

Big Spike's Cloudtop Challenge Expansion Set sits within the LEGO Super Mario range, a theme built around modular courses and use with a compatible interactive figure. The set name points to Big Spike and a challenge placed on a cloudtop, fitting the role of an add on scene for a Super Mario layout.

It should therefore not be described as a figure based set, but as a buildable expansion for a Super Mario environment.

The set is mainly relevant to builders and collectors who follow LEGO Super Mario and want another module for a course or display. It can be shown as part of an assembled layout, while its primary context is play and combination with other sets from the same theme. Within the range, it is best seen as a complementary expansion.
